Our Story

Why we built Snag Scout.

Founding statement

A new-build home should be one of the proudest milestones of your life — and for many buyers, it is. Most builders take real pride in their work and genuinely want to put things right when something isn't. Snag Scout exists to make that the norm: to celebrate the builders who get it right, and to make sure the buyers still chasing aren't doing it alone.

And it works both ways. Snag Scout isn't anti-builder, and it isn't about revenge. A builder who responds and puts things right earns a visible track record that shows future buyers they can be trusted. Good work gets the credit it deserves; quietly ignoring people simply stops working.

Because here's the gap we set out to close. Once the keys change hands, a single buyer has very little leverage — limited time, no legal budget, and a customer-care inbox that can be slow to act. For a builder completing hundreds of homes a year, one quiet complaint is easy to lose. It isn't malice; it's maths. A lone voice is easy to miss — and that is exactly what we change.

"One buyer with a snag list is easy to overlook. Thousands of buyers, on one honest record, change how the whole market behaves."
This was never just us

Snags themselves aren't the problem — they're normal, and these figures come from the industry's own research, not its critics. What matters is what happens next.

Defects, in other words, are near-universal — and usually fixable. The difference between a great experience and a miserable one is what happens next: how quickly they're put right, and whether anyone listens. Most builders aren't villains. We're simply here to help the responsive ones stand out, and to give every buyer a fairer footing.

That's what Snag Scout is for. By bringing verified reviews from across the South West into a single, searchable, evidence-led review platform, we create something no individual buyer can build alone: a clear, fair picture of how each builder actually performs over time — one that rewards the good and gently keeps the rest accountable.

Our vision

We are not a complaints platform. We are not a review aggregator. Snag Scout is an independent new-build review platform — built on the principle that factual, evidence-backed information about how builders perform is a matter of public interest, and that buyers of new homes deserve access to that information before they commit.

Our immediate focus is the whole of South West England, which has seen significant new-build development activity over the past decade, with a corresponding volume of unresolved defect complaints that never reach public record. We are here to change that — one verified review at a time.

Over time, we intend to expand nationally. But we are building this carefully. A platform that publishes unverified, emotionally charged complaints is not a record — it is a rumour mill. Every design decision in Snag Scout — the structured form, the builder's free right of reply, the objective-language requirement, the identity isolation architecture — exists to ensure that what enters the public record is defensible, accurate, and genuinely useful to future buyers.

What we are not

We are not affiliated with any developer, house builder, or construction industry body. We have received no funding from any organisation with a commercial interest in the new-build sector. We do not accept advertising, and we will never sell your personal information.

We are a small, independent team who believe that transparency is the single most effective corrective mechanism available to buyers in an unequal market. We built the tool we wished had existed.
